Rep. Todd Young, R-9th District, is one of four new appointees to the Ways and Means Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 113th Congress. Young will be the only Indiana representative on the committee.
Young took office in 2010 and won against Democrat Shelli Yoder to earn reelection Nov. 6. In the 112th Congress, Young, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, served on the House Armed Services Committee and Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces and the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. He also served on the House Budget Committee.
The House Ways and Means Committee includes subcommittees on trade, oversight, health, Social Security, human resources and select revenue measures. The committee is responsible for writing tax policy, handling trade policy and changing Medicare and
Social Security.
Other appointments to the committee this cycle include Rep. Tim Griffin, R-Ariz., Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa. and Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C.
“I’m incredibly honored to serve our district, state and country on the Ways and Means Committee,” Young said in a press release. “It is especially humbling because I know I had some outstanding colleagues also seeking a seat.”
