Former IU men’s basketball player Devan Dumes was arrested Wednesday morning on three felony charges, including attempted murder, according to a court probable cause affidavit.
At 9:41 a.m., Indianapolis police arrested Dumes on charges that include class A felony attempted murder, class B felony attempted carjacking and class D felony theft.
He is also charged with a class A misdemeanor of carrying a handgun without a license.
A court date has been set for 1:30 p.m. today in Marion County Superior Court Criminal Division 1, according to Dumes’ inmate profile on the Marion County Jail Information Management System.
The charges stem from a Jan. 11 supposed car sale between Dumes and the victim that eventually led to Dumes firing a gun at the victim.
According to the affidavit, Dumes shot the victim in the neck. The victim later transported himself to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis and was listed in critical condition. Dumes faces a sentence enhancement charge of knowingly using a firearm that resulted in bodily injury.
Dumes played at IU for two years and graduated in 2010. He was the team’s leading scorer during IU Coach Tom Crean’s first season, averaging 12.7 points per game.
