The best of pride

Pride Film Festival

The Shorts — 7 p.m. today, 7 and 10 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday at Buskirk-Chumley Theater

There will be screenings of eight- to 20-minute short films, coming from as far as Italy and New York. The shorts feature topics ranging from coming to terms with one’s sexuality to a transgendered lesbian’s confusion when choosing the right public restroom.

PRIDE Mass Wedding — 9 p.m. today at Buskirk-Chumley Theater

At least 12 LGBT couples are scheduled to either marry or renew wedding vows in a symbolic ceremony conducted by Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan. In honor of PRIDE’s 10th anniversary, come watch the film festival make Bloomington history in protest of the proposed state-wide same-sex marriage ban.

Christine Vachon — 3 p.m. Friday at the IU Cinema

Considered the “godmother to the politically committed film,” this NYC-based independent film producer is the co-founder of Killer Films, which has produced such acclaimed films as “Far from Heaven,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” and “I’m Not There.” Her films have been controversial and subversive since the early 1990s, proving to be a tour de force in the world of indie films among the LGBTQ community. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear a panel discussion with the indie legend, followed shortly by the first episode of her award-winning TV series, “Mildred Pierce.”

PRIDE Retrospective Dance Party — 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Buskirk-Chumley Theater

Come join a variety of demographics, orientations and ages for the biggest gay dance party Bloomington has to offer and what is considered the highest moment of the PRIDE film festival.
