Meth found in car, man arrested

Bloomington police arrested a man early Tuesday morning after two crystals of methamphetamine were found in the backseat of the Chevrolet Suburban in which he was riding.

Charles Matlock, 47, is currently booked at the Monroe County Jail facing preliminary charges for possession of methamphetamine. Bond is set at $4,000 surety and $500 cash.

An officer on routine patrol made a traffic stop at about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday on the 1700 block of East Hillside Drive after observing a driver turn without proper signal. The officer made contact with the driver and found she was operating a vehicle with a suspended license. The owner of the car was not present at the time, BPD Sgt. Joseph Crider said, and police obtained permission to search the vehicle.

In the rear console of the Suburban, the officer found a small plastic bag containing two small, glass-like objects that the officer identified to be crystal methamphetamine, Crider said. The officer was able to connect the drugs with Matlock, who was a passenger in the car, following an interview.

The driver of the car was issued two citations and told police she had no knowledge methamphetamine was present in the Suburban.
