Created under the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington, the newly founded Office of Global and Community Health will bring together Indiana and international partners with the aim of developing more effective and stable relationships.
Continuing with the transformation of the former School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, the new office will accommodate any public health-oriented issues in Indiana communities, along with partnerships already established throughout the world, according to a press release.
In places like Egypt and Beijing where relations have already been established with IU, issues such as violent crimes, race, obesity and sex education will be addressed to undergo developments with the launch of the new office.
Though founded in February, the office is built on decades of work between the school and outside partners according to a press release. Already established by the School of Public Health are more than 110 external organizations that have more than 150 research and workforce developments. With the launch of the new organization, new resources will help expand the ongoing projects with the national and internal partners.
One of the goals of the Office of Global and Community Health Partnerships is to address issues such as HIV/AIDS, sexual health and children’s health with the global and international collaborations formed by the School of Public Health’s staff and faculty.
The executive director of the new office, Erin Cooperman, said in a press release the team that helped form the global and community health partnerships contributed a variety of experience and expertise.
“Some are good at mobilizing community partners; others have been creating campus-community partnerships for years or extending the reach of the school overseas,” she said in the release.
