For the first time since 2000, IU can claim an Associated Press first team All-American.
Junior guard Victor Oladipo was named to the AP squad Monday, while his teammate, sophomore forward Cody Zeller, made the second team.
Oladipo is only the eighth first-teamer in program history and the first since sharpshooting guard A.J. Guyton in 2000.
Oladipo has earned a slew of awards already this postseason, including Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Sporting News National Player of the Year and a number of All-American team honors.
He was second on the team with 13.6 points per game and 6.3 rebounds while his 2.2 steals per contest led the Big Ten. Oladipo finished with a field goal percentage of 59.9, an increase of 12.8 percent from his sophomore season.
If he enters this summer’s draft and foregoes his final year of eligibility, the junior is considered a likely lottery pick. However, after IU’s season-ending loss Thursday to Syracuse, Oladipo said he has not yet even begun to think about that.
Zeller said essentially the same thing after the game. He, too, would be a likely early draft pick after averaging 16.5 points and 8.1 rebounds this season.
