A 20-year-old crashes grandparents' car into guardrail

A 20-year-old man was transported to IU Health Tuesday evening after crashing his grandparents’ vehicle into a guardrail. Police later responded to a single-vehicle traffic accident near 11th and Rogers streets where they identified the car and the man.

After the man allegedly took his grandparents’ late-model Chevrolet, an integrated cell phone system was able to track down the vehicle with the grandson behind the wheel.

After being asked to return the vehicle, the grandson indicated he was located on I-65 north of Indianapolis. Officers waited for him at the grandparents’ residence, but the vehicle was not returned there.

The car had been travelling at a high rate of speed and the individual was implying intention of self-harm.
