Car accident leads to marijuana bust

After responding to the scene of a single-car crash, officers found over 30 grams of marijuana in the driver’s backpack, BPD Sgt. Dana Cole said.

A 19-year-old male was driving his white Ford Taurus, intoxicated, when it made contact with a tree around 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of South Basswood Drive and South Copper Beech Way.

When the car was towed, a backpack containing more than 30 grams of marijuana was found, which constitutes a felony amount of the substance.

The suspect, who admitted to possession of the marijuana, said he sometimes dealt to his friends.

The suspect was arrested and preliminary charged with dealing marijuana, marijuana possession, illegal consumption of alcohol and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
