2 Hoosiers named to watch lists

PSU Football

Two Hoosiers have shown up on preseason watch lists for position awards.

Senior tight end Ted Bolser and senior kicker Mitch Ewald have been named to the Mackey Award and Lou Groza Award watch lists, respectively.

Each award recognizes the best college football player at their respective position. The Mackey Award goes to the top tight end in the country and the Lou Groza Award to the top place kicker.

Bolser and Ewald have each been on their respective list for three consecutive years now, but neither have won the award.

Last year, Bolser became the third tight end in IU history to surpass the 1,000-yard career receiving mark as a Hoosier. He is the record holder in touchdowns by an IU tight end with nine, and is second in receptions with 82.

Ewald enters 2013 as third in IU history in career field goals (44), fourth in extra points (105) and sixth in total points (237).

Players are selected for preseason watch lists based on performance in the previous year and expectations for the coming year.

Ewald converted 15 of 20 field goals last year and 42 of 43 extra points.
Bolser had a career year in 2012, catching 41 balls for 445 yards and three touchdowns.

The Mackey Award and Lou Groza Award winners will be announced Dec. 12 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
