Hoosiers leave World University Games in Russia with zero medals

No Hoosiers will leave the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, with medals.

The Canadian water polo team, featuring the Hoosier trio of senior Shae Fournier, sophomore Jessica Gaudreault and junior Shelby Taylor, lost Tuesday in the bronze medal game against Italy 6-5.

Sophomore guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell and senior forward Will Sheehey helped lead Team USA to a ninth-place finish in men’s basketball, defeating Finland 97-70 Tuesday.

Sheehey led all scorers with 20 points in the win. Team USA finished 6-2, but fell out of medal contention after dropping two consecutive games in pool play. Following those two losses, Team USA won three consecutive games.

IU senior swimmer Eric Ress, competing for France, finished fifth in the 200-meter backstroke Monday, touching in 1:58.83.

Sophomore Brooklynn Snodgrass and senior Cody Miller did not advance out of the 50-meter backstroke and breaststroke prelims, respectively, Monday.

Miller had top-10 performances earlier in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke.
