Jakubicek to miss 2013-14 season with ACL tear

IU red shirt sophomore forward Claire Jakubicek will miss the entire 2013-14 season after tearing her ACL in her right knee, the team announced Wednesday.

The wing player sat out last season after transferring from Northern Illinois after her freshman campaign.

“We are disappointed that Claire will miss the upcoming season with her recent ACL injury,” IU Coach Curt Miller said in a press release. “She had worked hard during her transfer season and was prepared to be an impact player on the court for our young roster in 2013-14. We have no doubt she will attack her rehab process and be ready to contribute in the future.”

As a freshman at NIU, Jakubicek was named MAC Freshman of the Year after averaging 11 points per game and shooting 46 percent from the field.

Jakubicek becomes the second player on the roster in two years to tear her ACL in the offseason. Redshirt sophomore guard Kaila Hulls tore her ACL last season before the season started, causing her to miss the entire season.

Hulls is expected to play this season.
