Three men were arrested in relation to two stolen handguns, Bloomington Police Department’s Sgt. Joe Crider said.
A 31-year-old man reported to police July 17 that there were two men outside his residence on the 2500 block of Rockport Road who were in possession of stolen guns.
Officers responded to the call and were able to locate and interview one of the male suspects. The 21-year-old male suspect admitted to police that he had broken into an unlocked vehicle and taken two handguns on or around July 16.
The 21-year-old male suspect reported to police that he had given one of the handguns to the 31-year-old man who initially called police to report the two male suspects.
Though this man denied the allegations at first, he eventually admitted to taking the handgun and selling it to his father-in-law, police said.
The 38-year-old father-in-law was located and interviewed by officers. The father-in-law admitted to purchasing the handgun from his son-in-law and still being in possession of the handgun, police said.
He also admitted to police that he was a convicted felon recently released in March after serving a four-year prison sentence, police said.
The 21-year-old was arrested for theft of the handguns, the father-in-law was arrested for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and the son-in-law was arrested for possession of stolen property and the prohibited transfer of ownership of a firearm to someone who cannot legally possess a firearm.
