CAROUSELspBolser

Senior tight end Ted Bolser was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week Wednesday.

Bolser caught two touchdowns against Navy Saturday, upping his total to four for the year.

Bolser is tied for the highest number of touchdown receptions in the nation and has the most among tight ends.

Bolser totalled five catches for 56 yards against the Midshipmen.

So far this season, Bolser has 11 catches for 134 yards. Those are the second and third highest totals for tight ends in the country, respectively.

Earlier this season, the Cincinnati native was one of 37 tight ends named to the John Mackey preseason award watch list. The award’s given annually to the nation’s best tight end.

Bolser has been named to the list for three consecutive seasons.

In the first week, Florida State tight end Nick O’Leary, grandson of golfer Jack Nicklaus, took home the award for Tight End of the Week.

Bolser, who has 13 touchdowns in his career, already has the most touchdown catches for tight ends in IU history.

He also ranks second in IU history for receptions by a tight end (93) and receiving yards by a tight end (1,151).

On Oct. 14, the midseason award watch list for the John Mackey award will be announced. Semifinalists will be announced Nov. 18 and finalists will be announced Nov. 25.

The John Mackey Award will be presented to the winner Dec. 12 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show.
