Column: Phillip Lim comes to Target

entAudreyColumn

Target has done it again.

On Sunday, the national retailer released its newest capsule collection with Phillip Lim.

For those of us who want to be styled by famous designers such as Prabal Gurung, and Missoni, Target offers an alternate option for budgeters. Now, thanks to Lim, we have a chance to be refined while still being economical.

Lim outdid himself with this collection, and all of the products oscillated within a middle-to-higher price level. Whether it is a color-blocked T-shirt for $20 or a $300 leather jacket, the collection features products for both men and women.

For a college town like Bloomington, I don’t think the mostly professional designs suit our demographic. On a campus that is mostly clothed by laid-back brands like Victoria’s Secret Pink and Under Armour, I don’t think I will be seeing Lim’s light blue dress pants anytime soon.

This idea saddens me because I think we could all use a day to look more put together.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a day in sweats, but wouldn’t it be nice to be comfortable and not look like a slob?

However, Lim upheld this ideal in most of his collection.

For those who want a day to look polished, there are a variety of suit sets, blouses and trench coats. In terms of quality, all the products are made of dense fabric. As a side note, beware — the zippers are weak.

However, for those who want something they can throw on and have it appear otherwise, there is a solution.

Recognizing the recent sporting trend, Lim added a significant amount of sweat pants and sweat shirts into his collection.

Pair the sweatshirt with a skater skirt and trade your sneakers in for flats or loafers. If you do this, ladies, you will walk out of your apartment in an outfit straight out of Lim’s online preview. That is the beauty of his collection.

Everything is simple and structured, so easy to assemble. Also, there are mostly neutral colors, so you can’t mess up the color scheme.

This is foolproof outfit assembly. I love it.
