Monroe County received the 2013 Local Government Cooperation Award from the Association of Indiana Counties on Wednesday.
The award was given to Monroe County as a result of Monroe County’s Pharmaceutical Safe Disposal Program.
The program collects and properly disposes of old pharmaceutical drugs and controlled substances, according to a press release from AIC.
The program, which was created in 2011, is a partnership between the Monroe County Triad and the Prosecutor’s Office, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Monroe County Solid Waste Management District and IU Health Bloomington
Hospital.
Drop-off locations are the IU Health Bloomington Hospital lobby — at the outpatient pharmacy — and Monroe County Solid Waste Management District’s hazardous materials facility.
The award was given during AIC’s annual conference in Switzerland County.
