Bailey announces run for U.S. Congress

Former Seymour, Ind., Mayor Bill Bailey announced Wednesday he will run in the Democratic congressional primary to unseat Rep. Todd Young, R-9th District.

Bailey announced his intention to run at a small public gathering outside the Social Security Administration building in Bloomington’s south side. He said he’s dissatisfied with Congress and the decisions it’s made.

“The country and future that my children and grandchildren seem destined to inherit are not as full of hope and opportunities as I enjoyed,” he said.

Underfunding of education and student loans, unemployment — especially among the middle class — and proposals to reduce Social Security benefits to seniors are Bailey’s chief concerns, he said.

Most recently, Bailey represented the 66th District in the southeastern part of the state in the Indiana House of Representatives.
