Bloomington man dies in 3-vehicle accident

A 67-year-old Bloomington man died in a three-vehicle accident at about 10:40 a.m. Friday.

Bloomington Police Department officers responded to a vehicle accident near North Kinser Pike and the State Road 45/46 bypass at about 10:40 a.m. Friday, according to a press release from BPD Capt. Joe Qualters.

Cecil Cain, 67, who was driving a Buick LeSabre, was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The preliminary cause of death is believed to be blunt force trauma, although an autopsy has not yet been conducted.

An investigation into the accident indicated Cain was traveling west on the State Road 45/46 bypass, and attempted to make a left turn to travel south on North Kinser Pike, according to the release.

Cain pulled in front of a Ford F250 and was struck by the truck on the passenger side of his vehicle.

The impact of the collision pushed both vehicles into a Ford Explorer, which was stopped at the intersection in the northbound lane of North Kinser Pike, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported and the accident remains under investigation.
