Science departments give open houses

Students can watch pumpkins fly out of windows and a volcano erupt at IU’s annual science open houses Saturday.

The astronomy, chemistry, geological sciences, mathematics and physics departments invite students and faculty to experience hands-on presentations.

The open houses begin at 9 a.m. The physics, geological sciences, mathematics and astronomy demonstrations will take place at Swain Hall West, and the chemistry open house will occur in the Chemistry Building.

The chemistry open houses coincide with National Chemistry Week, which ends Saturday. Chemistry magic shows will be conducted at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The IU Physics Club will offer several demonstrations, and will perform pumpkin drops at 10:40 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. in the Swain West parking lot.
