Anastasia Mak exhibit on display at Venue

CAROUSELentMakBrief

An exhibit of paintings by Chicago artist Anastasia Mak is currently on display at the Venue Fine Art & Gifts.

Mak’s work is part of a special one-week exhibit and will remain on display until Dec. 5.

Mak, who currently resides in Chicago, was born in the Ukraine and came to the United States at the age of 14.

As a reflection of her international residencies, Mak’s paintings depict world destinations, such as the Canals of Venice and Amsterdam.

Some of Mak’s work reimagines Bloomington and IU landmarks, like her paintings of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater and the Sample Gates, which are featured in her exhibit at the Venue.

Mak’s work, which mixes natural and surreal elements with buildings, cities and landscapes, falls under the category of contemporary impressionism.

Mak said in a press release she enjoys both the highs and the lows that come with creating her original paintings.

“For me, making art is both challenging and entertaining,” Mak said. “I enjoy passing the great pleasure I feel from creating paintings to those who acquire them.”
