Holiday pop-up shop opens Thursday

CAROUSELentBling

This week, holiday shoppers will be able to get their hands on some bling that wasn’t offered on Black Friday.

More than 150 pieces of handmade items crafted by artists of IU’s Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design Guild will be for sale in the Bling Holiday Pop-Up Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Henry Radford School of Fine Arts.

“Our holiday sale has always been a great opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind gifts by BFA and MFA metalsmiths at a great price,” Guild President Kelly Novak said.

For its second year, the sale will feature 16 artists’ work, including earrings, rings, necklaces, pins and pendants made from silver, brass, copper, resin and wood, Novak said.

Items start at $18. Novak said 40 percent of profits will go toward funding a visiting artist’s workshop in the spring, and the artists get the rest.

“Our sales can range anywhere from $200 to $600 depending on the day and the crowd,” Novak said.

Although the sale is one day only, Thursday isn’t the last chance to browse the gifts made by the guild.

The Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design Guild usually has a minimum of two Bling Pop-Up sales a year, but their work can also be found in the Friends of Art Bookshop, Novak said.

The sale will be on the second floor of the School of Fine Arts, directly across from the Grunwald Gallery.
