2 men deny allegations in Spierer lawsuit

Defendants in a civil suit denied allegations Monday regarding their involvement in the disappearance of a missing IU student.

The attorneys for the two men filed responses in federal court to allegations that Jason Rosenbaum and Corey Rossman were responsible for the wrongful death of Lauren Spierer, who was last seen in June 2011.

Rosenbaum and Rossman were reportedly with Spierer when she went missing, according to court documents.

The lawsuit, filed by Lauren’s parents Rob and Charlene Spierer in May, alleges Rosenbaum and Rossman owed Lauren a “duty of care” after they reportedly provided the intoxicated minor with alcoholic beverages.

Lauren was a 20-year-old IU sophomore who was reported missing June 3, 2011.

She was last seen that summer evening after a night out at Kilroy’s Sports Bar and party at Rosenbaum’s residence, according to court documents.

Judge Tanya Walton Pratt ruled in December that two of the three counts presented in the lawsuit could move forward. Prior to the motion, a suit against Mike Beth, who was also with Lauren the night she disappeared, was dropped.
