CAROUSELspIUBB

The IU men’s basketball team (14-10, 4-7) fell to the Penn State Nittany Lions (13-12, 4-8) 66-65 Wednesday. Sophomore guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell’s desperation attempt at the end of regulation clanked off the rim, sending Penn State players celebrating its comeback victory.

The Hoosiers, which led by as many as 13 points in the second half, saw Penn State take its first lead of the game off a Tim Frazier layup with six seconds left.

IU failed to score a basket in the last five minutes and 16 seconds of the second half. It committed 20 turnovers, several in the last minute off inbounds passes that allowed Penn State back in the game.

Ferrell had a game-high 16 points, but neither he or his teammates could deliver the knockout blow to a Penn State team that waited until the game’s final three minutes to deliver its comeback.

The Nittany Lions finished the game on a 10-0 run in the game’s final two minutes and nine seconds. In that timespan, IU committed two fouls and four errant turnovers, all the while failing to score a single point.

IU’s next game is on Saturday at Purdue at 4 p.m.
