Vonleh, Ferrell win Big Ten honors

CAROUSEL

Noah Vonleh was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year for the 2013-14 season, the conference announced Monday. Sophomore guard Kevin 'Yogi' Ferrell was named second team All-Big Ten in the awards.

Vonleh, a Haverhill, Mass., native, collected seven Freshman of the Week honors on his way to the yearly award. Though he missed two conference games with a foot injury, Vonleh led the conference in total rebounds with 140 in conference play and ranked No. 23 in scoring average at 11 points per game.

He is IU's tenth Freshman of the Year and second under IU Coach Tom Crean. Cody Zeller collected the award in 2012.

Ferrell finished conference play as the Big Ten's No. 3 scorer, averaging 17.8 points per game for the Hoosiers. He led the conference in 3-pointers made and chipped in 3.8 assists per game.
