IU Coach Kevin Wilson didn’t have to look far for his potential future quarterback.

IU football added one of the nation’s top quarterbacks to its 2015 class, as Indianapolis standout Tommy Stevens announced on his Twitter account he committed to IU Wednesday.

“I’m very excited to announce that I’m committed to Indiana University #HoosierArmy15 #IUFB,” Stevens tweeted.

The dual-threat Stevens is ranked No. 15 nationally as quarterback in the class of 2015 by Rivals.com.

The three-star recruit is coming off a junior season that saw him pass for 1,596 yards and rush for 785 yards at Decatur Central High School.

The 6-foot-3, 196-pound, right-handed passer also had offers from Big Ten rivals Purdue, Michigan State, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota, according to Rivals.com.

When Stevens begins his college career in the 2015 season, he will likely join an IU quarterback depth chart with seniors-to-be Tre Roberson, Nate Sudfeld and Max Matthews, who will play in their final year of eligibility.

Stevens could potentially join a quarterback battle of freshmen and sophomores for the starting spot in 2015 that might also include freshman Zander Diamont, who joined the team at the beginning of the spring semester.

Stevens becomes the third 2015 commit. He joins defensive end Jacob Robinson and offensive lineman Simon Stepaniak.

The Hoosiers begin their 2014 season Aug. 30 against Indiana State at Memorial Stadium.
