Maryland leads IU 20-9 at the half

After a half of play in IU’s Big Ten opener against Maryland, the Terrapins lead the Hoosiers 20-9.

Quarterback C.J. Brown is leading the Maryland offense with 163 yards on 10-of-15 passing and one touchdown.

Maryland opened the game with a 45-yard drive, resulting in a 48-yard field goal. The Terrapins converted on three quick first downs before stalling at around the IU 30-yard line.

A couple drives later, Maryland was forced to punt and Shane Wynn returned it 73 yards for a touchdown. But, play was called back after an illegal block called on IU.

Penalties plagued the Hoosiers throughout the half. Six of them resulted in a total of 47 negative yards for IU.

In the second quarter, Maryland completed a 75-yard drive in three plays, taking only 59 seconds off the clock, that extended the Terrapins’ lead to 17-6.

IU kicker Griffin Oakes is 3-for-3 on field goal tries, one from 38 yards out, one from 48 and the last from 58 yards.

Oakes’ 58-yarder is the longest field goal in IU football program history.

IU quarterback Nate Sudfeld is 9-of-22 passing for 89 yards and running back Tevin Coleman has just 34 yards rushing today.
