A pair of newcomer guards led the way for the Hoosiers, with freshman James Blackmon, Jr., scoring a game-high 26 points and junior Nick Zeisloft adding 24.
Junior guard Kevin 'Yogi' Ferrell finished with 16 points, and junior forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
All five IU starters scored at least 10 points.
After averaging just 16 3-point attempts per game last season, IU took 27 shots from behind the line, connecting on 10.
USC transfer Maurice Jones led Northwood with 19 points and four assists.
The Hoosiers next take the floor Monday night in its second of two exhibitions against Indianapolis.
