IU swept the weekly Big Ten diving honors this week, as freshman Jessica Parratto and sophomore Michael Hixon were the women’s and men’s Big Ten Diver of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday.
At last week’s USA Diving Winter Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, Parratto won two gold medals and one silver. Her wins came in the platform and synchronized platform events. Parratto finished second in the 3-meter synchronized competition with 563.40 points.
Parratto also paired with Amy Cozad, a former IU diver, to win the synchronized platform title. Their point total of 586.32 was 44.04 points ahead of the second-place finishers.
This is Parratto's first-career Diver of the Week award.
On the men’s side, Hixon took home a silver medal in the 1-meter event and bronze in the 3-meter. He also paired with former Hoosier Darian Schmidt to place fourth in the 3-meter synchronized competition at Winter Nationals.
Hixon, a sophomore transfer from Texas, has been an instrumental part of the men’s diving team this season. He has won four of six events through the first three dual meets.
This is Hixon’s third Diver of the Week honor. He last won the award on Nov. 4.
