Je'Ney Jackson to leave IU

IU men’s basketball strength and conditioning coach Je’Ney Jackson will leave the program and return to Kansas.

Mike Pegram of Peegs.com first reported Jackson’s departure. The University confirmed in a press release Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson will become the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Kansas football program. He will remain with the team until after its Big Ten opener at Nebraska on Wednesday.

"When you have talented people there is never a good time to see a staff member go, but Je'Ney has a wonderful opportunity in front of him to become a head strength coach for a BCS football program," IU Coach Tom Crean said.

Jackson joined the program in 2010 and helped IU win the 2013 Big Ten Championship, as well as send three Hoosiers to the NBA. He also worked with the men's golf program.

"Je'Ney had a tremendous impact in helping us achieve the successes we have had since his arrival," Crean said. "He has had true ownership of our program."

Previously, he coached at Southern Mississippi, Kansas and Wyoming, where he worked under former Wyoming Coach and current IU assistant coach Steve McClain. He was a four-year letterman in football at Wyoming.

A job posting for a “Strength and Conditioning Coach, Men’s Basketball” was placed on the University’s jobs portal this morning. In the interim, assistant strength coach Chris Virtue will oversee the program.
