FINAL: No. 23 IU defeats No. 13 Maryland 89-70

In its first game as a ranked team this season, No. 23 IU knocked off No. 13 Maryland, 89-70. The win moved the Hoosiers into a tie for first place atop the Big Ten standings.

After flirting with the rankings for multiple weeks, IU finally broke through on Monday, slotting in at No. 23 in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls. The Hoosiers played up to that ranking.

A dominant 3-point shooting performance keyed the victory. IU shot 15-of-22 from behind the arc, including seven 3-pointers from junior guard Yogi Ferrell. He led all scorers with 24 points and chipped in five assists.

Freshman guard James Blackmon Jr. continued to rebound from a mid-season shooting slump, scoring 22 points. Sophomore forward Troy Williams scored 16 and tallied a game-high seven rebounds.

With the win, IU moves to 15-4 on the season and 5-1 in the Big Ten.
