In its first game as a ranked team this season, IU leads No. 13 Maryland 38-35 at halftime.
After flirting with the rankings for multiple weeks, IU finally broke through on Monday, slotting in at No. 23 in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls. The Hoosiers have played up to that ranking through 20 minutes.
A hot start – led by sophomore forward Collin Hartman – had IU up 12-3 early before turnover issues struck. The Hoosiers turned it over seven times in the half, including three consecutive possessions.
Hartman has already set a career high with 10 points. Sophomore forward Troy Williams also tallied 10. Freshman guard James Blackmon Jr. and junior guard Yogi Ferrell each scored nine points. No other Hoosier scored.
Maryland’s Jake Layman scored 11 points and pulled in three rebounds in the half.
