Track

IU junior and middle distance runner Tre’tez Kinnaird claimed his second Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor of the 2014-2015 season with his performance in the IU-Purdue dual meet Saturday.

His 600-meter dash time of 1:18.40 marks the fastest finish in the nation and won him first place in the dual meet. His participation in the 1600-meter relay 3:13.30 also earned the 25th best time in the country.

Kinnaird’s efforts in the dual meet against No.14 Purdue assisted the Hoosiers to an 80-55 victory.

His first Athlete of the Week award came on Dec. 15, 2014, after the Hoosiers hosted the 2014 Hoosier Open in Gladstein Fieldhouse. Kinnaird placed first in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:23.84 and second in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:15.08.

Kinnaird was named a 2014 All-American as a freshman for his school record in the 600-meter run, he finished third in the distance medley relay at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and he finished second at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in the 800-meter run.

He placed first in the 800-meter run at the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships and sixth place in the World Junior Championships, running the second-fastest time in school history.

The Hoosiers compete next in the Gladstein Invitational on Saturday.
