First half recap

After one half of play, IU trails No. 19 Maryland 35-34 on the road.

Junior guard Yogi Ferrell has done most of the heavy lifting for IU thus far, scoring a game-high 13 points. He’s 4-of-5 from the field and 4-of-4 from 3-point range, even converting on an and-1 3-pointer late in the first half.

IU’s 3-point shooting has carried the team so far, as it did against Maryland the first time the teams met. The Hoosiers are shooting 6-of-10 from long range while shooting just 27 percent on 2-point shots.

So far, too many of the misses have come from near the rim. Freshman guard James Blackmon Jr. has been responsible for some of those struggles. He’s shooting just 1-for-9 from the field.

The lead has switched hands 12 times thus far and has been tied once. Maryland has led for most of the game, but lead by just one despite shooting 10 percent better from the field than IU.

IU took a 23-22 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the half after sophomore forward Collin Hartman and freshman guard Robert Johnson drained back-to-back 3-pointers, but Maryland would outscore IU by two points the rest of the way.

The Terrapins are led by Melo Trimble who has 11 points. Dez Wells has nine.
