Tong finishes in top-35 at NCAA Regional

The last IU women’s golfer still competing this spring was senior Elizabeth Tong. Her season ended Saturday, as did her collegiate career, when she finished tied for 31st at the NCAA Regional at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.

Tong played rounds of 79, 74 and 71 to finish with a final 54-hole score of 224. Tong was competing as an individual, and only the top three individuals advanced to the NCAA Championship.

Her score was five shots shy of the final spot, as Kentucky’s Isabelle Johansson won a three-way playoff for the final individual qualifying spot. The other two individuals to qualify were Memphis’ Michaela Fletcher and Idaho’s Leilanie Kim.

Tong’s golfing career at IU ended Saturday with her seventh round under-par this season. She also put forth 36 top-50 finishes in her career and finished in the top-35 in both of her NCAA Regional appearances.
