Johnagin performs at Comedy Attic this weekend

Tommy Johnagin will be performing at The Comedy Attic Thursday throught Saturday.

Comedian Tommy Johnagin will be performing at the Comedy Attic this week.

According to the owner of the Comedy Attic, Jared Thompson, Johnigan is in the top five percent of comedians on Earth.

In 2010, Johnagin placed second on NBC’s “Last Comic ?Standing.”

Johnagin has made appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman” seven times, Thompson said.

He has also made appearances on the “Bob and Tom Show” and has done stand-up specials for Comedy Central.

Johnagin will be performing Thursday-Saturday at the Comedy Attic, located at 123 S. Walnut St. in downtown Bloomington. The Thursday show will begin at 8 p.m., and the Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 10:30 p.m.

Johnagin is one of the few comedians to do clean comedy while still being “exceptionally funny, tremendous,” ?Thompson said.

People ask about shows that don’t have much vulgarity, and the fact that Johnagin can provide that increases his attendance, Thompson said.

“By the time the club opened, he was already this boy wonder comic,” Thompson said. “He was only a four-hour drive away when we first booked him almost immediately after we opened the club, probably 2009.”

Getting a big-time ?comedy gig is difficult for people who do not live in New York, Thompson said.

Thompson said the fact Johnagin had attained such success while still living in St. Louis was a testament to his talent.

Thompson said he was one the only comics to get such credit at such a ?young age.

He has also made a jump from comedy to film; he has done a series of shows about his daughter and his life story.

Given his relationship with audiences, Thompson said Johnagin’s performance at the Comedy Attic is not to be missed.

“It’s going to be a guaranteed slam dunk,” ?Thompson said.
