Junior guard Dan Feeney was named to the Outland Trophy watch list Friday by the Football Writers Association of America. The award is given to the best interior lineman in the nation on either offense or defense.
In Phil Steele’s 2015 preseason teams, Feeney was named first team All-Big Ten and fourth team All-America. In 24 starts as a Hoosier, he has allowed only one sack.
He was a part of the offensive line that paved the way for a school record-breaking 3,163 rushing yards in 2014. Feeney led that team with 80 knockdowns. During that record breaking year, running back Tevin Coleman also broke the school record for individual rushing yards in a season with 2,036.
The winner of the Outland Trophy is chosen from three finalists that are a part of the FWAA All-America Team. Semifinalists are named Nov. 19, then the finalists are named Nov. 24. The winner will be named at the Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 10 in Atlanta.
