IU trails Southern Illinois 32-21 at halftime of the season opener. IU gave up 394 yards of offense in the half and put up 243 yards of its own.

In his first half back on the field since October, senior quarterback Nate Sudfeld completed 8-of-12 passes for 132 yards.

On the first defensive play of the season, IU gave up a 29-yard to SIU running back Camero Walter. Freshman defensive back Jonathan Crawford then blocked a 49-yard field goal.

When IU first got the ball, the Hoosiers drove 68 yards down field concluding with a 13-yard touchdown run from sophomore running back Devine Redding.

IU had a punt blocked late in the first quarter that bounced back instead of going out of bounds. SIU recovered in the end zone to score and converted a two-point attempt to go up 11-7.

With the Hoosiers up 14-11, SIU converted a dumb pass on a play action over the middle that went 68 yards to tight end Adam Fuehne for an SIU touchdown. The Salukis went up 18-14.

After a Hoosier three-and-out, it took the Salukis six plays to drive 72 yards for another touchdown on a one-yard roll out pass to Carmien Hans to go up 25-14.

IU quickly drove down field with a 41-yard pass to Simmie Cobbs. The drive finished with a short run from UAB transfer running back Jordan Howard. The next drive, SIU drove down field again and scored on the last play of the half with a one-yard touchdown run from Iannotti.
