IU wins season opener 48-47

IU defeated Southern Illinois 48-47 in the season opener Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The game came down to an SIU 2-point attempt with seconds remaining that went incomplete.

After IU scored a touchdown with 58 seconds left, SIU marched down field and Jimmy Jones scored a touchdown on a jumping catch in the corner of the end zone. The following 2-point attempt that failed sealed the win for the Hoosiers. 

Senior quarterback Nate Sudfeld passed for 349 yards and a touchdown in his return. UAB transfer running back ran for three touchdowns.
