IU falls in Big Ten semifinals

From IDS reports

IU men’s soccer suffered a loss in sudden death against Maryland on Friday at the Big Ten Tournament semi finals.

Regulation and overtime could not separate the sides as they ended the game 1-1, and it took more than five penalties to find the winner.

Senior midfielder Endoh Tsubasa scored Maryland’s goal in the 10th minute, but redshirt junior Phil Fives equalized just three minutes later.

Both teams were fairly even in regulation with Maryland having 13 attempts on goal and IU having 12.

IU tried to find the winner in the two periods of overtime and outshot Maryland 6-1, but was unable to find the
breakthrough.

Junior goalkeeper Christian Lomeli was put in goal by the Hoosiers for the penalty shootout, and he proved his worth by saving three penalties and IU was up 2-1 after the two rounds.

However, despite Lomeli’s heroics, the Hoosiers were unable to convert their last four spot kicks, and the Terrapins came from behind to win 3-2.
