Yogi Ferrell wins second Big Ten Player of the Week award this season

Senior guard Yogi Ferrell fights for the ball with Illinois guard Malcolm Hill Thursday at the State Farm Center in Champaign. Ferrell led the Hoosiers in scoring with 27 points against the Illini, helping IU beat Illinois 74-47.

IU senior guard Yogi Ferrell was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the second time this season.

The honor comes after IU beat Illinois 74-47 last Thursday in Champaign, Illinois.

Ferrell finished 11-of-18 for 27 points. He added five assists and shot 50 percent from 3-point range.

With 17 points per game, the senior guard has led the Hoosiers to the top of the Big Ten. IU earned at least a share of the conference title after Iowa lost to Ohio State on Sunday.

Ferrell said earlier in the season their goal is to win the title outright, and he reiterated that after the Illinois game
last week.

“We always say all the time that we control our own destiny and I know these guys are everyday guys,” he said. “We are going to take it one day at a time, prepare how we need to prepare, get some treatment, watch some film, put up extra shots because it’s coming down to the last few games.”
