IU advances to the Sweet 16 after beating Kentucky

Kentucky freshman guard Isaiah Briscoe attempts to steal the ball from junior forward Troy Williams during the NCAA second round game Saturday at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

With the injuries piling up, IU still managed to hold on late and win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Kentucky 73-67.

Sophomore guard Robert Johnson re-injured his ankle in the first half and Juwan Morgan re-injured his shoulder in the second half. Junior forward Collin Hartman played with a wrist injury and freshman forward OG Anunoby played with an ankle injury.

The Hoosiers were led in scoring by freshman center Thomas Bryant with 19 points, including 17 in the second half. Fifteen of those points came in the last 10 minutes of the game.

He also made four of his six free throws in the final minute of the game.

Senior guard Yogi Ferrell also scored 18 points for the Hoosiers. Kentucky sophomore guard Tyler Ulis led all scorers with 27 points.

The Hoosiers managed to win despite only shooting 29 percent from behind the arc, partly because Kentucky only shot 25 percent itself.

IU will play the winner of North Carolina and Providence in the Sweet 16 on Friday in Philadelphia.
