IU were unable to break its losing streak in its opening match of the Big Ten as it lost 4-1 to Purdue on Tuesday night at Basham courts in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Dominik Sochurek and Ricky Medinilla beat senior Chris Essick and junior Stefan Lugonjic 6-3 at No. 2 doubles while Matues Silva and Renan Hanayama beat sophomore Raheel Manji and freshman Afonso Salgado 6-3 in No. 3 doubles to give the Boilermakers their first point of the night.
Purdue would then double the lead when Silva beat Salgado 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Freshman Antonio Cembellin won the only point of the night for the Hoosiers when he beat Hanayama 6-0, 6-4 in No. 6 singles.
Manji was unable to get the better of Bejamin Ugarte in No. 2 singles and fell 6-0, 6-4 as Purdue extended the lead to 3-1.
The Boilermakers got the clincher when No. 69 Gergely Madarasz beat No. 44 senior Sam Monette 6-2, 6-4 in No. 1 singles.
At the time of the clincher, junior Matthew McCoy was leading Lucas Dages, at No. 4 singles, 5-2 in the second set after having beaten him 6-4 in the first set. Senior Daniel Bednarczyk had also fought back to 4-4 in the second set against Ricky Medinilla after having lost the first set 6-4.
