Young Pioneer is the first team of international students to participate in Little 500. The team failed to qualify in 2015. Carl Field volunteered to be their coach after reading about them in an article by the Herald Times. Field said he believes Young Pioneer's qualifying this year will encourage different kinds of groups to join Little 500.
