IU adds North Carolina to its non-conference schedule

Junior guard Troy Williams drives through a North Carolina defender towards the net on Mar. 25 at the Wells Fargo Center. Indiana lost 101-86.

After having its season ended by North Carolina in March, IU will have another shot next season.

CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported the Tar Heels are coming to Bloomington as part of the Big Ten vs. ACC Challenge for the 2016-2017 season.

The last time IU and North Carolina played in the regular season was during the 2012-2013 season, when the Hoosiers beat the Tar Heels 83-59 in Assembly Hall.

North Carolina is the latest in a string of high-profile opponents who will play IU in next year's non-conference slate.

IU is also scheduled to play Kansas on Nov. 11 at Pearl Harbor as part of the Armed Forces Classic, Butler on Dec. 17 in the Crossroads Classic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Louisville on New Year's Eve in Indianapolis.

Kansas, Louisville and North Carolina are ranked No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 in ESPN's preseason poll for next season. IU is ranked at No. 8 in the same poll.

The Hoosiers are still waiting on the decisions of both rising senior forward Troy Williams and rising junior guard James Blackmon Jr. and whether they will keep their names in the NBA Draft and hire agents. The deadline for doing so is May 25.
