Our inner-seventh-grade-emo selves rejoiced — or mourned or complained or whatever we did back then — when news broke that Amy Lee, singer of goth-rock band Evanescence, was releasing a new solo record, “Dream Too Much,” set to come out tomorrow.
Little did we know the style of this LP would not be in the tradition of the heavier sound we came to associate with Lee and Evanescence. Instead, we’re getting a children’s album.
That’s right.
The same woman who brought us songs like “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal” decided a kids’ record is just what she needed in her repertoire.
Actually, Lee is apparently taking the family-friendly vibe very seriously, recording songs like Sesame Street’s “Rubber Duckie,” the Beatles’ “Hello Goodbye” and the R&B standard “Goodnight My Love” on the new record.
If that isn’t enough, Lee literally made the album family-oriented by having her father, sisters, uncle and two-year-old son perform on the record with her. It was the latter who inspired the album.
