IU ranked No. 12 in coaches poll

The IU men’s basketball team is one of five Big Ten teams in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll, which was released Thursday morning.

The Hoosiers check in at No. 12, according to the coaches. Two conference team, No. 9 Michigan State and No. 10 Wisconsin, sit ahead of IU. In-state rival Purdue begins the season at No. 15 with Maryland at No. 21.

Michigan and Ohio State are also among others receiving votes.

IU only plays Michigan State and Maryland one time this year but has a home and away series with both Wisconsin and Purdue.

They play three top-15 teams listed in the preseason poll, starting with No. 2 Kansas to open up the season in Honolulu, Hawaii, and No. 6 North Carolina at home in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

IU Coach Tom Crean’s squad will also face two quality teams in Indianapolis, with No. 14 Louisville on New Years Eve and Butler, which received votes, in the Crossroads Classic.
