IU women’s basketball gained the fifth commitment of the 2017 recruiting class when three-star guard Bendu Yeaney committed to the Hoosiers on Sunday.
Yeaney is from Portland, Oregon, and attends St. Mary’s Academy. ESPN lists her as a 5-foot-10 guard who is “physical off the dribble and an aggressive defender.”
She was also considering Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Oregon State.
According to ESPN, Yeaney was named Honorable Mention All-State for her division in 2015. She was also named to USA Today’s second team All-Oregon as a junior.
With the early signing period for men’s and women’s basketball beginning this week, IU and Coach Teri Moren look to have firmed up its already-strong recruiting class, with five commits for 2017. IU will have to replace five current seniors on next year’s roster.
Moren’s other recruits for 2017 include five-star wing Jaelynn Penn of Louisville, who committed to the Hoosiers last month. A trio of three star recruits — Linsey Marchese of Georgia, Alexis Johnson of Texas and Keyana Warthen of Florida — rounds out the current class for IU.
