Man charged with October rape

Alejandro Perez-Cortez was charged by Bloomington Police for rape of a 19-year-old female Thursday.

BPD Sgt. Joe Crider said Perez-Cortez, 25, was under investigation since Oct. 4 when the sexual assault occurred.

The victim was woken up at her apartment on Oct. 4 to Perez-Cortez sexually assaulting her, according to the probable cause affidavit. The victim told police Perez-Cortez was a friend and had been over drinking with the female and her husband.

The victim reported screaming when she woke up and as Perez-Cortez was leaving, she told her husband she had been raped. Her husband then chased Perez-Cortez out of the residence, Crider said.

After Perez-Cortez fled, the couple immediately left to file a report at the police station at 6:50 a.m. on Oct. 4.

BPD located Perez-Cortez on Thursday at the Monroe County Justice Building where he was charged with rape, a level three felony.
