Junior diver Michael Hixon won the men’s 1-meter springboard championship at the Diving Winter Nationals on Monday in Columbus, Ohio.

"It was a great night for Michael tonight," head diving coach Drew Johansen said in a press release. "He kicked the rust off after not being at a National event since the Olympic Trials. I am excited to see him return to the World Championships."

Hixon finished the event with a total score of 825.40, including a 414.40 in the final round. He also totaled more than 70 points on four of his final six dives, including a 79.90 on an inward 2-1/2 somersault pike – his final dive of the night.

Senior Michal Bower, also representing the Hoosiers in Columbus, placed seventh in the 1-meter final.  Scoring a 496.40 over 10 dives, she also qualified fourth in the women’s 3-meter dive. The final of the 3-meter will be Wednesday night.
