Feeney, Scales named All-Americans

spIUFB

Senior offensive lineman Dan Feeney earned All-America honors for the second year in a row after earning Walter Camp honors Thursday, and IU junior linebacker Tegray Scales was named a second team All-American by si.com.

In 2015, Feeney was named to four All-America teams and is the first offensive lineman and sixth player in IU history to earn All-America honors twice. He helped lead the Hoosiers to first in the Big Ten in total offense, passing offense and scoring offense with 102 knockdowns in 1,069 snaps.

After missing part of the season with a concussion, Feeney started the final four regular season games of the 2016.

Scales is the first Hoosier linebacker to be named an All-American since Van Waiters in 1987. This is the third consecutive year IU has had a player named to an All-America team. Offensive linemen Jason Spriggs and Feeney were honored last season, and running back Tevin Coleman was an All-American in 2014.

Scales is top in the country with 87 solo tackles and leads the Big Ten with 20.5 tackles for loss. He has five sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown and a forced fumble this season.

At one point this year Scales had a six-game streak of double-digit tackles. It was the longest streak in the NCAA.

IU will face No. 19 Utah in the Foster Farms Bowl on Dec. 28 in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game will be televised on Fox, and kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Eastern time.
