BHS North student expelled after pulling knife on bus

Region Filler

A Bloomington High School North student has been expelled for the rest of the semester after he repeatedly pulled out a pocket knife on his school bus, administrators told Bloomington police.

Police responded at about 2 p.m. Tuesday to the high school. A female student had reported to the administration that a 17-year-old male student had displayed an open pocket knife after an argument on the bus Jan. 17, Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. Dana Cole said.

The student told an officer he’d pulled the knife out because several other students on the bus were bullying him, Cole said. The officer interviewed other students, who said the same thing had happened several other times — the suspect brandished the knife after becoming upset.

Police contacted juvenile probation on a charge of possession of a knife on school property, a misdemeanor, and advised the student to be released to his parents.
